We will be teaching 30 students how to make pattern darning bookmarks on April 4th.

We need the following:

  • Ribband (the chapter is donating this)
  • Perle Cotton 8 in red, gold, black (school colors)
  • Tapestry needles size 22
  • Time to help put kits together or help at the workshop itself

If you are able to help, please email webmistress@muchasmanos.org.

Michelle C. is collecting donations for a middle school after-school craft club. She’sna member of a Virginia chapter of ANG and one member there runs the club at the school she works at. She told me she has around 50 members, both boys and girls. They are always looking for donations. If anyone looks through their stash and finds anything they don’t want anymore that might appeal to a middle schooler, let Michelle know and she will pick it up. She is going to Virginia at the end of the month and will personally deliver the donations. Michelle is flying Southwest so that second suitcase is free!

The Mira Mesa library has said they would welcome our work to use as incentives for reading contests that they have. So dig in your stash and find those strips of fabric that you couldn’t toss but haven’t found a use for yet because now you have one. Even better, if you have some Ribband then all you need to do is stitch and the finishing is practically done. Bookmarks are quick to stitch and free bookmark charts can be found on Pinterest . Let’s all commit to making at least one bookmark in the next few months. Follow along on our Pinterest board.

Spend the day learning how to create magic with wool roving, soap and water. This fun and informative workshop is a great way to introduce you to the hands-on art of wet felting. Learn how to layout the roving and using warm soapy water to magically create a beautiful piece of fabric. The resulting fabric can be strong and textural or filmy and ethereal. Wool created with this technique makes a wonderful foundation for thread embroidery, bead embroidery, and needle felting.

Learn all you need to get started exploring this creative art. To inspire you, your kit will include: Wool and wool/silk roving, felting and beading needles, and an assortment of vintage and contemporary beads and sequins, along with detailed instructions. This will allow you to create your own, one of a kind, purse or pouch.

The morning will be felting and after lunch will be embellishing.

Star Dance is a study in the difference in the use of a single color using different threads, stitches, direction of stitches and the reflection of light to create “dancing stars”. The original is stitched with Soie d’Alger silk and some specialty threads. The center star is a revolving set of patterns with metallic threads to add to the definition of the stitches. The background of the design is composed of many different star patterns using two values of blue silk with the addition white Sparkle Rays. This slice of the sky reminds me of and was inspired by the early morning sky along the central west coast of California as dawn is breaking and the stars are beginning to fade into the day. This design is offered as a 24 or 18 count canvas in silk or cotton floss. Approx. design size is 10” x10” on 18 count and 7.5 x7.5 “on congress ground. Ghost students are permitted.

Registration Deadline is March 24, 2018
